THE PHILOSOPHY

For most of modern economic history, the logic of a career was relatively straightforward. Learn something valuable. Become competent at it. Accumulate experience. Move upward. Become more difficult to replace.

That logic depended on a world in which many forms of knowledge, judgment, coordination, analysis, and production remained expensive because they required a human being to perform them.

The scarcity that once protected a career can disappear without the person disappearing.

Artificial intelligence changes the economics of that relationship. It does not simply automate individual tasks. It can reduce the cost of producing portions of the very capabilities people once accumulated as professional capital.

That creates a different question from whether AI will replace your job. The more consequential question is which parts of your economic contribution remain scarce when the cost of producing information, analysis, and increasingly sophisticated output approaches zero.

The answer is not universal. Two people with the same title can occupy radically different economic positions. Their exposure, leverage, accumulated capital, information advantage, complexity, human scarcity, and ability to reposition can differ substantially.
